When designing a web page, the question of animation frequently comes up. Personally, I'm not wild about having animation on a web page, unless it serves a distinct purpose with regard to the goal of the web page. For example, if you are selling a product, animation can give a quick demonstration of how the product works. Animation can also be used to show a 360 degree view of the product. If the purpose of your web page is to disseminate information, and an animation will clarify the information, then great! However, if an animation does not contribute to the goal of the web page, then you might want to rethink using animation. Like graphics, animation will slow down the amount of time it takes your web page to load. Animated .gif files can be distracting & annoying, causing your viewers to go elsewhere. Even just 1 or 2 can create a web page that is visually painful to look at. Think about it, are people surfing the web, and finding your web site for entertainment or information? If they are looking to be entertained, and the animation is part of the entertainment you are providing, then you are right on the money. However, if they are searching the web for information, and find you, give them what they came for. Hope this helps! Feel free to email Lesley if you run into any problems.
