Lesley's Internet Tip For Textbook Buyback Services:
The idea for this week's tip showed up at my doorstep, along with a
textbook. Among the packing slips was a notice about a textbook buyback
service.
Now, when I was a wee bit of a girl, pursuing my bachelor's degree,
the textbook buyback people used to show up at the University of
Lowell's campus, at the end of the school year. I remember hauling a
stack of text books almost too heavy for me to handle, and trading them in
for much needed gas money. (Don't get me started on the Fiat jalopy I
used drive, and spending a whole college summer rebuilding the engine w/
my father...)
I kept my beloved (and, I do mean beloved) Calculus book, and the CRC
Math Tables book. Luckily, times have changed, and I've kept every
textbook, and reference book I've obtained since then (80+ of them, and
counting).
These days, if you want to sell back your textbooks,
you can go on the web, type in an ISBN number, and figure out which books
are worth how much. Then, you box them all up, and send them on their
merry way. Here is a sampling of some that are available:
Textbookbuyer.com
has instructions for printing out a pre-paid label, so you don't even
pay to ship them.
CampusBooks.com
will buy back your old text books, and also has a feature where you type
in the ISBN of a book, and it will search the web for comparison prices.
Barnes& Noble
will buy back used textbooks, and will also pay the postage.
This offer is only good for books sent from within the United States.
Awesome-prices.com
,
a no frills web site, advertises
they'll send a payment for your used textbooks within 8 hours.
BooksIntoCash.com
has been in business for over 16 years, and will also pay the postage on
the books you send in.
ecampus.com
will issue a quote for your textbooks that's good for 7 days. Even if
the book you send in is not in good condition, ecampus.com
will still issue a $3 credit per book, that's good for merchandise on
their site.
Textbookx.com
is more of a textbook marketplace than a buyback service. You list the
textbooks you'd like to sell, and set the price. A small commission
price is built into the price by TextbookX.com .
Specialty Books
allows you to fill a shopping cart with the books you intend to
sell. If they can't locate the price of the textbook you are trying to
sell, they'll collect additional information about the book, and send
you an email with the any information they were able to find.
Hope this helps! Feel free to email Lesley
if you run into any problems.
